Job summary

The Doncaster and Bassetlaw Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service is currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic Band 5 or soon to be qualified Speech Language Therapist to be part of our innovative outpatient service. The post is based in the Bassetlaw area but could go across the Doncaster and Bassetlaw health communities.

This post is also open to Newly Qualified candidates awaiting registration.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to:

  • Provide clinical expertise in supporting the delivery of high standards of therapeutic care for patients within their care / speciality
  • Manage own caseload and to provide a high standard of assessment, management, treatment and advice to meet the needs of patients.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in health, social care, local authority and other agencies to meet the needs of patients.
  • Ensure the efficient and effective use of resources available within the team.
  • Work with other members of the team in the development of the service.
  • Ensure Clinical Governance is integral to service delivery within the specialty area.
  • Represent the Therapy Team and contribute to the development of the wider Therapy service within Clinical Therapies.

About us

The Doncaster and Bassetlaw Speech and Language Therapy Service is team of 28 therapists and therapy assistants working across multiple clinical pathways but all delivering the very highest levels of care to our paediatric caseloads.

Team leads are in place to offer operational support along with clinical specialists available to provide clinical support. Clinical supervision is available for all staff.

As a teaching hospital, opportunities are available to participate in research. The department has a track record of successful applications to Health Education England - National Institute for Health Research clinical academic programmes with staff participating in the Internship and Pre-Doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship schemes.

Job responsibilities

Clinical

  • To act as a source of clinical knowledge within the team to non-qualified staff.
  • To promote clinical excellence through his/her practice within their level of competence and developing skill set
  • To manage a clinical caseload within a defined clinical area working autonomously, but with access to advice/support from senior physiotherapy staff.
  • Work collaboratively in the multidisciplinary team to plan treatment and care of individual patients.
  • Work in collaboration with other health care professionals within the wider health community to drive the excellence in clinical care and service improvement within the speciality.
  • To act as a resource for patients assessing their individual needs and observing the principles of holistic care when planning treatments that are sensitive to the ethnic, cultural and spiritual needs of the patient.
  • Proactively contribute to the achievement of standards/ compliance of targets within their speciality.
  • Provide advice and support to patients and carers from diagnosis and throughout the patient pathway. Liaising with the multidisciplinary team to provide a high standard of care
  • Enable and empower patients to make informed decisions regarding treatment options through the provision of expert knowledge and utilisation of relevant resources

  • Contribute to the provision of a high standard of service, delivered within local and national guidelines and within the resources available.
  • To help in the implementation of appropriate new evidence based techniques and activities.
  • Acting as a role model, employ professional behaviour that encourages and coaches their peers to challenge their current competencies, whilst seeking opportunities to enhance their roles.
  • To liaise with and provide regular feedback to their line manager on clinical issues e.g. resources, waiting times, outcome monitoring targets.
  • To use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
