An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Solicitor
The post holder will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the Legal Services Department, ensuring that there is a high performing, effective legal service that delivers best practice Trust wide and when engaging with external organisations.
They will provide leadership and direction for the team to maximise learning and quality improvement in line with the Trust's strategy. They will have overarching responsibility and accountability for all work carried out in the Legal Services Department working collaboratively with the patient safety team.
Main duties of the job
Provide the Trust and Executive with expert legal and practical advice in all aspects of healthcare law with the highest level of analytical and judgement skills.
Management of and professional lead for the Trust's Legal Services Department, developing the potential of staff and encourage growth in respect of skills and professional competencies.
Ensure the provision of a dedicated legal service within the Trust and develop the service to meet the Trust's strategic needs.
Ability to clearly communicate highly contentious, highly complex and highly sensitive information in a demanding environment.

Lead on the investigation and management of clinical negligence, personal injury, employer and third party liability claims in accordance with national and Trust policy.
Manage the portfolio of Inquests, providing expert legal advice and support to all staff involved in the Inquest process.
Plan and prepare for legal hearings and provide advocacy at the Coroners Court as required.
Development of systems and process to ensure triangulation of learning from litigation and inquests with incidents and complaints working
Accountable for the quarterly analysis and monitoring of legal spend by ensuring accurate quantum reserves that may affect the Trusts overall financial performance.
Accountable for the development of close working relationships between the Legal Department, clinical and non-clinical staff, Executive team and Divisional Triumvirate.

- Strong technical expertise within the area of Healthcare law, including litigation, inquests and general healthcare advice, derived from specialist expertise in the health sector.
- Experience of dealing with complex clinical negligence claims
- Experience of managing own caseload and delegating work at an appropriate level to others. Providing technical guidance and working effectively within a team and alone.
- Experience of managing a team and supporting junior team members, including formal supervision and mentoring, setting objectives and performance management.
Qualifications
Essential
- Degree in Law (or other degree with completion of relevant conversion course).
- Qualified Solicitor with a current Practising Certificate (issued by Solicitors Regulation Authority).
- Devises and provides learning and development to other professionals from a non-legal background.
Desirable
- Experience of successfully operating in and delivering priorities in a partnership environment
