Do you want to help us transform NHS prenatal diagnostic and geneticservices? We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Scientist funded by theGreat Ormond Street Biomedical Research Centre to join our team based in the NHS North Thames Genomic Laboratory Hub at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Our team is delivering transformation in patient care by using circulating cell free DNA to develop new approaches for safe prenatal diagnosis, pipelines for rapid, comprehensive diagnosis of paediatric conditions such as early onset epilepsy using genome sequencing andutilising long read sequencing technologies to transform clinical services. In addition, as one of the biggest recruiters to the 100,000 Genomes Project, we are now exploring new approaches to identify causative variants in unsolved cases.
Main duties of the job
If you are committed to contributing to a team delivering excellence inresearch into genetics and would like to gain experience in translationalresearch this is definitely the post for you. This Band 8a post is availableimmediately, funded until 31st March 2028 in the first instance, with apossibility of extension if we are successful in renewing the BRC. You will be joining an enthusiastic, friendly, motivated multidisciplinary research team working closely with the Clinical Scientific and Bioinformatics team. This is an ideal opportunity to contribute to the translation of research into clinical practice for the benefit of our patients. It's a great chance to experience working in an expert translational research environment based in a thriving Genomic Laboratory Hub closely affiliated to the academic environment of the UCL GOS Institute of Child Health. This post is also suitable for experienced Clinical scientists wanting to broaden their horizons and undertake a secondment to gain experience of translational research. Hybrid working is supported, however, after the probation period a minimum of 40% on site working is required.
