CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGY WITH AN INTEREST IN NEUROENDOCRINOLOGY
The Endocrinology service at Great Ormond Street Hospital would like to announce an exciting opportunity for a 1 WTE Locum Consultant Paediatric Endocrinology post with an interest in Congenital Hyperinsulinism and Diabetes.
This is a 10PA fixed term one year consultant post for general endocrinology with a subspecialty interest in glucose metabolism, namely congenital hyperinsulinism and diabetes. The post-holder will join ten other existing consultants leading multi-disciplinary teams in different areas of paediatric endocrinology. The post-holder will gain wider experience of managing complex general endocrine disorders and will manage a cohort of patients with hyperinsulinism and diabetes.
The post-holder will be expected to work with colleagues to support and develop the neuroendocrine service. The successful candidate will share the responsibilities for the endocrine service including supporting the congenital hypothyroidism service. There will be a commitment to an outreach clinic four times per year.
The clinical service is closely aligned with both clinical and molecular research at the UCL GOS Institute of Child Health and collaborative partners, and the post-holder will be encouraged to develop an active research programme into rare endocrine disease and neuroendocrinology at the UCL GOS Institute of Child Health (UCL).
Main duties of the job
The post holder will participate in a 1 in 7 attending/ on call commitment for this post. The attending duties include on call cover for a week at a time, from Monday at 9.00am to the following Monday. During these weeks, no outpatient clinics will be undertaken. The attending consultant will undertake daily ward rounds, review endocrine and diabetes inpatients, and those attending the Endocrine Investigation Unit. They will also supervise the junior doctor management of outliers within the Hospital and will provide advice to outside Hospitals. The on-call duties are non-residential but additional emergency duties may arise under exceptional circumstances. Endocrine inpatients referred during attending weeks will be retained by the attending consultant.
The post-holder will participate in teaching activities of the endocrine service, offered to the referring hospitals andwithin the trust, and be responsible for educational/clinical supervision of trainees.
