Job summary

About the Role We are seeking an experienced and motivated Medical Photographer to join our dynamic team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This is a 12-month fixed-term position within a busy, central London department that provides high-quality photography and videography services across clinical areas, theatres, and studios. Our work supports clinicians in delivering exceptional care and includes strong collaborations with GOSH Arts and GOSH Charity.

What We're Looking For

A qualified Medical Photographer, ideally Band 5 ready for progression or Band 6 seeking development.

Skilled in 3D photography and all aspects of medical photography, including sensitive areas such as bereavement and non-accidental injuries.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Proven ability to produce consistent, high-quality clinical images and creative PR content.

Applicants must present a portfolio (digital or printed) and complete a short studio-based photography test. If this sounds like you, please apply now

Main duties of the job

  • Manage their own workload daily to meet the demands of the service.
  • Working closely with the Photographic Manager in the supervision of the clinical photographers and trainees and maintenance of service including quality control and performance review
  • To assist in the co-ordination and organisation of complex photographic or video productions and public relations photography, involving the scheduling of staff, patients and accommodation to meet the deadline required
  • To be responsible for the safe use, maintenance and storage of valuable digital equipment and photographic resources
  • To maintain appropriate levels of stock to meet the photographic requirements of each individual site
  • To undertake medical photography, ensuring ethical practices are followed. Using tact and diplomacy to persuade patients to agree to participate in the photographic session and to understand the consequences of image consent. In particular when it is of a highly sensitive nature (genitalia/trauma/NAI/foetal deaths) or if the procedure is extremely difficult to understand
  • Be responsible for ensuring quality of all photography produced within the department is of a highly professional nature. That the condition has been accurately interpreted and the appropriate equipment and correct lighting technique has been used to ensure it is medically and legally valuable.

About us

By growing an ever more diverse workforce, we'll have a greater range of perspectives and knowledge, meaning that we can provide the children and young people at our hospital with even better care.

Our hospital is committed to creating an environment that is open and inclusive. Our staff are encouraged to engage with colleagues through the following networks: REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) ENABLED (Enhancing Abilities & Leveraging Disabilities Network), PRIDE and Women's networks; all of which are sponsored by a member of our Executive Management Team.

We want to ensure that all of our people, regardless of their background, are seen and heard. We want to attract applicants that share our commitment to inclusion and that understand diversity is a strength that is embraced and valued.
