Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a Physician Associate to work alongside our clinical team within the Paediatric Nephrology teams. This is a full-time substantive post (37.5 hours).

The Physician Associate role will work closely alongside the nephrology team through assessing and examining patients, presenting them, initiating and interpreting investigations, and recommending treatment. They will liaise with other professionals and specialities as required and complete necessary documentation relating to their patients.

They will be supervised by a designated consultant and will also have individual mentors to oversee their career development.

It is expected that the Physician Associate will become involved in the activities of the Department, including coordinating patients on ambulatory pathways related to their speciality, reviewing patients admitted to their ward/s and providing subsequent management of their case in conjunction with the clinical Teams. It is envisaged that the role will be developed flexibly over time in accordance with the appointee's clinical interests and in line with the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

Supporting the inpatient and outpatient nephrology service working alongside the medical, nursing and AHP team to review and manage ward patients as part of the MDT.

Supporting the work of the Renal support unit - managing long-term nephrology patients in outpatients and when admitted to the ward. The post holder may initially rotate across the main areas in the renal support unit as above to develop sub-specialty knowledge and expertise.

The post holder will work closely with the consultant team and MDT caring for long-term renal patients, across inpatients, outpatients and providing telephone guidance and advice.

The post holder will be trained to see and provide an initial assessment for ambulatory patients presenting for nephrology care.

Full clerking of patients to include assessing and examining admitted patients, ordering appropriate investigations, interpreting investigation findings, forming a list of differential diagnoses and recommending treatment accordingly.

Liaison with other teams internally in GOSH and externally to support patient care.
