Consultant for Haematology (10 PAs)
GOSH is the largest centre for paediatric haematological malignancies in Europe with around 90 new diagnoses per annum. The department is the joint Principal Treatment Centre (PTC) for North London with UCLH. The radiotherapy provision is at UCLH. Currently children aged 13 years and above are seen at UCLH and younger children at GOSH. GOSH provides care for all children <1y of age across North and South London. The department is an active participant in national and international collaborative clinical trials and has close working relationships with the bone marrow transplant (BMT) team.
This is a full-time, 10 PA substantive consultant, and the post holder will be part of the Haematology department. Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons, to work full-time will be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues
The post-holder will provide a clinical service (with 5.5 other Consultants) to infants and children with malignant haematological conditions (leukaemia, MDS and NHL) as well as those with marrow failure.

Main duties of the job
This is a full-time consultant, and the post holder will be part of the Haematology department. This is a 10 PAs post.
The post-holder will share (with 5.5 other Consultants) outpatient and ward responsibility for the investigation and treatment of all infants and children with leukaemia, lymphoma or marrow failure.In an attending week one consultant (A) is present Monday to Friday 8.15 till 1900. They lead the NHS ward service, and do not undertake a clinic. The second consultant in the team (B) supervises day care, laboratory reporting and runs the team clinic and is present 0830 to 1730 Monday to Friday. They may also be requested to provide cover for the ward in the absence of junior staff.A consultant delivered model of care is in operation on the NHS ward. The attending consultant is expected to lead the team in a full ward round daily. The consultant or associate specialist will deal with external queries and referrals. Each consultant will be responsible for ensuring that they maintain competence at electronic prescribing and all hands-on aspects of day-to-day clinical work.
The significant workload associated with attending weeks (A or B) is offset by increased time off in non-attending weeks.
