*MOLECULAR LABORATORY EXPERIENCE IS ESSENTIAL*We are seeking a highly motivated associate practioners withexperience in molecular laboratory to help support our expandingdiagnostic work in the department.Candidates are expected to have previous experience as a MedicalLaboratory Assistant, Laboratory Technician or equivalent and to haveworked in a molecular diagnostic or academic laboratory. An eye fordetails and working in an organised manner is crucial to this role.Previous experience in diagnostics and sequencing would beadvantageous.The department provides an extensive range of investigations tosupport the specialist patient population of this tertiary referralpaediatric hospital, and also provides a specialist molecular service toother hospitals. This is an excellent opportunity to work as part of avery experienced and dedicated team to gain extra skills andknowledge of paediatric microbiology and sequencing, including NGS(Next Generation Sequencing).This is a vibrant, progressive, well equipped, and a ISO15189accredited laboratory.
Main duties of the job
- Participation in technical work in accordance with requirements of assigned laboratory section
- Registration of samples received into the laboratory and entering patient request data into IT systems
- Sample processing including nucleic acid extraction, DNA/RNA quantitation, sequencing library preparation, Sanger sequencing set up and storage of DNA / RNA using both manual and automated methods
- Perform work strictly according to current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in order to facilitate the provision of accurate and timely reports
- Assist in the maintenance, preparation and amendment of SOPs
- Report to the Clinical Scientist or Senior Biomedical Scientist if work/systems fail to meet the specified standards and/or Turnaround Times
- Good understanding of the potential risks when handling infectious samples
