Job summary
You will need to be a Clinical Scientist registered with HCPC and at least working towards a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) qualification under RPA2000. Applicants with less experience will be considered for appointment at a lower band. This post is advertised as 0.8WTE however, full time equivalence will be considered.
You will have a strong background in developing quality assurance methods and in the optimisation of imaging techniques, teaching staff and R&D. As part of a dynamic and committed team you will be expected to be a part of the delivery of all aspects of service, therefore excellent opportunities to broaden your experience and for future personal development.
The Trust has a SPECT-CT scanner and two single headed cameras. The Trust also has an active redevelopment programme and is planning to open a new Children's Cancer Centre in 2028 with an imaging floor which will include a PET-CT.
Main duties of the job
Be an appointed Medical Physics Expert in Nuclear Medicine (under The Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposures) Regulations 2017) for GOSH, or close to submitting portfolio for certification
Liaise with the service leads/ department managers / RPSs to plan and carry out radiation safety compliance audits, patient dosimetry data collection and analysis, equipment performance testing, respond to requests for reactive issues, optimisation projects, communicating results and new guidance
To support the Principal Physicist in planning and implementing the Trust's image quality programme for NM, including monitoring, and maintaining image quality, and leading on protocol optimisation and QA
Manual dexterity when drawing up radioactive materials, ensuring fine motor skills are performed quickly and safely
To deputise the Principal Nuclear Medicine Physicist when required.
To develop and train NM Clinical Scientists.
To assist the Principal Physicist in working collaboratively with clinical staff and the department's leadership team to develop and implement policies and procedures to continually improve services.
To conduct, and where appropriate to organise, theoretical and practical teaching and training of clinical scientists, radiologists, technologists, radiographers, nurses and other staff as required
To keep up to date in the routine practical methods to maintain registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) in your own discipline
