This exciting fixed term opportunity will suit an innovative and experienced Physicist. This post is advertised as 0.8WTE however, full time equivalence will be considered.
You will have a strong background in developing quality assurance methods and in the optimisation of imaging techniques, teaching staff and R&D. As part of a dynamic and committed team you will be expected to be a part of the delivery of all aspects of the service, therefore excellent opportunities to broaden your experience and for future personal development.
The Trust has a SPECT-CT scanner and two single headed cameras. The Trust also has an active redevelopment programme and is planning to open a new Children's Cancer Centre in 2028 with an imaging floor which will include a PET-CT.
You will need to be a Clinical Scientist registered with HCPC and will also be a qualified Medical Physics Expert (MPE) qualification under RPA2000.
Main duties of the job
- Act as an appointed Medical Physics Expert in Nuclear Medicine (under The Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposures) Regulations 2017) for GOSH
- To lead, plan and implement the Trust's image quality programme for NM, including monitoring and maintaining image quality, and leading on protocol optimisation and QA
- Manual dexterity when drawing up radioactive materials, ensuring fine motor skills are performed quickly and safely
- Manage quality assurance testing of NM equipment and compare against national/manufacturer guidelines, analysing data, reporting results and acting on any recommendations
- To meet regularly with Consultant Radiologists and NM Technologists/Radiographers to discuss image quality and optimisation.
- To work with the Radiology management team to establish an NM physics team at GOSH, implementing policies, protocols, and documentation for the team
- To lead on the recruitment, induction, and training of NM Clinical Scientists.
- To line manage current provision of NM Clinical Scientists
- Work with empathy and provide managerial re-assurances when required.
- To keep up to date in the routine practical methods to maintain registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) in your own discipline.
- To participate in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programmes, such as IPEM CPD scheme.
