Job summary
Biomedical Scientist (Cell Therapy)Applications are invited from experienced, flexible and motivated Biomedical Scientist role, within the Cell Therapy Department at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.Great Ormond Street Hospital is a world class centre for blood and marrow transplantation of children with a wide range of malignant, haematological, immunological, metabolic and rheumatological conditions. In addition, it has a world class programme of translational research in gene and other cellular based therapies.The Cell Therapy Laboratory supports this clinical work by conducting a wide range of manipulations, including red cell depletion, cord blood washing, cell selection and depletion and storage of autologous haematopoietic stem cells. We provide support for a range of research and development projects and now support the Thymus TransplantProgramme.You will be trained in all aspects of the cell therapy service, inaddition, you will undertake assays important to monitoring the efficacy and safety of therapies in line with regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working in a routine diagnostic laboratory, and knowledge of regulatory requirements in this specialist area.

Main duties of the job
To assist in cell therapies as directed within the cell therapy laboratory
To contribute to the evaluation and implementation of new procedures and tests, including translational research.
To report results of investigations, with interpretation as required
Assist in the maintenance of a full quality management system for the cellular therapy laboratories, ensuring all allocated documents and audits are completed in a timely fashion
Help to co-ordinate the booking of procedures within the Cellular Therapy laboratories, and ensure that staff are available
To train and supervise medical laboratory assistants, trainee biomedical, research and clinical scientists, and less experienced members of staff
To participate in annual appraisal and development of a personal development plan according to the guidance from the Trust
To ensure that the laboratory is a safe environment to work in, by assisting in the update of risk assessments for procedures including the Thymus Programme
