Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust

Clinical Fellow in Neonatal and Paediatric Critical Care

The closing date is 16 July 2025

Job summary

Clinical Fellow in Neonatal & Paediatric Critical Care

(Single or rotational fellowships in NICU/PICU/CICU/CATS)

Clinical Fellows ST6+

Start date: Between September 2025 and September 2026

We are seeking candidates to support our Senior PICU Resident doctor / Clinical Fellow tier from September 2025

(although applications also welcome for those wishing to commence employment up to September 2026)

We are also seeking candidates to work in NICU, PICU, CICU and CATS Resident Doctor / Clinical Fellow roles with start dates either in March or September 2026.

We support candidates wanting to work in full-time or less than full-time working patterns.

The paediatric critical care departments at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), London, UK, invite applications for a training fellowship in intensive care medicine.

This post offers the opportunity for either experience of a single intensive care specialty at Great Ormond Street Hospital, be it in the Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU), Paediatric Intensive Care (PICU), Cardiac Intensive Care (CICU) or the Children's Acute Transport Service (CATS), or the potential for rotation around a combination of these clinical intensive care environments.

If clinical experience and competence allows, this supports successful candidates in developing clinical knowledge and skills across a range of neonatal and paediatric intensive care environments.

Main duties of the job

1 ICU weekly duties and timetable

As a tertiary/quaternary referral hospital many of the patients seen here are extremely complex and encompass many specialities. The consultant intensivists are fully committed to intensive care with no other clinical responsibilities, so all care is consultant led.

The department provides facilities for complex monitoring and treatment procedures, including different techniques for mechanical ventilatory support, intracranial pressure monitoring and continuous veno-venous haemofiltration. Advanced cardiovascular support includes ECMO and VAD which is carried out in the CICU.

There is separate consultant cover for PICU, NICU, CICU and CATS with two consultant led ward rounds on each unit every day. Formalised unit teaching activities are arranged around weekly teaching days and one monthly teaching day involving fellows from other North London PICUs. Bedside and ward-based teaching is provided within each unit. There is a hospital Grand Round at lunchtime on Wednesday.

The appointees will be required to take a share in all activities of the unit. This will include partaking in "on call" duties, which are an integral part of the full shift as outlined. Although an agreed duty rota is carefully followed, occasional emergency cover may be required. Unit and hospital protocols exist, and the post-holder is expected to adopt management which takes note of these.

About us

We are keen to make our workforce as diverse as the communities we serve, and we hope to attract applications from underrepresented groups, including people with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic heritage, people with a disability, and people from LGBTQ+ communities. By growing an ever more diverse workforce, we'll have a greater range of perspectives and knowledge, meaning that we can provide the children and young people at our hospital with even better care.

Our hospital is committed to creating an environment that is open and inclusive. Our staff are encouraged to engage with colleagues through the following networks: REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) ENABLED (Enhancing Abilities & Leveraging Disabilities Network), PRIDE and Women's networks; all of which are sponsored by a member of our Executive Management Team.

We want to ensure that all of our people, regardless of their background, are seen and heard. We want to attract applicants that share our commitment to inclusion and that understand diversity is a strength that is embraced and valued.
