The closing date is 08 June 2025

Job summary

The Occupational Therapy Team at Great Ormond Street Hospital are looking for a Band 8a Occupational Therapist who has extensive experience of working in the field ofOrthopaedics and Spines. This would ideally be with children with complex physical disabilities, but we will also consider applicants from an adult Orthopaedic and Spines background.

Clinically you will provide expert Occupational Therapy input into the Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgical pathways in both the Outpatient and Inpatient settings. As the Team Lead you will also support and manage the team of 4 other OT's within Orthopaedics and Spines. You will also be responsible for supporting service development, both in the Orthopaedic Team but also in the wider OT Team where you will form part of the senior leadership team.

Knowledge of child development would be helpful, although not essential, whilst previous experience of working in or with Community Services would be useful as there is a large liaison aspect to this role. The ability to promote a functional approach that both enables engagement in meaningful occupations and promotes participation is a necessity.

Main duties of the job

The role involves provision of Occupational Therapy Assessment and Intervention within the Orthopaedic and Spinal Service, primarily preparing a young person and their family for surgery through making the appropriate community arrangements and then providing post surgical rehab.

You will be responsible for providing intervention that supports and enables these children and young people to engage in chosen occupations as much as possible, and to utilise a variety of therapeutic approaches to promote motivation and wider participation post-surgical intervention. The role also includes working with young people and families to support their understanding of their condition, and the impact surgery may have on their everyday life during the recovery period and beyond.

We are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapist who is working at an advanced Level, with the ability to offer evidence-based assessments and intervention to children and young people with Orthopaedic and Spinal conditions. We need a team-player who can work collaboratively as part of a strong multidisciplinary team. In return our service offers the opportunity to be part of a world-renowned tertiary hospital that provides cutting edge treatment and interventions.

About us

We are keen to make our workforce as diverse as the communities we serve, and we hope to attract applications from underrepresented groups, including people with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic heritage, people with a disability, and people from LGBTQ+ communities. By growing an ever more diverse workforce, we'll have a greater range of perspectives and knowledge, meaning that we can provide the children and young people at our hospital with even better care.

Our hospital is committed to creating an environment that is open and inclusive. Our staff are encouraged to engage with colleagues through the following networks: REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) ENABLED (Enhancing Abilities & Leveraging Disabilities Network), PRIDE and Women's networks; all of which are sponsored by a member of our Executive Management Team.

We want to ensure that all of our people, regardless of their background, are seen and heard. We want to attract applicants that share our commitment to inclusion and that understand diversity is a strength that is embraced and valued.
