We are looking for a motivated and experienced Senior Nurse to join the team within the Sight and Sound Directorate. The Directorate incorporates Plastics, Craniofacial, ENT, Outpatients, Ophthalmology, Dental, Maxillofacial, Cleft, Audiology and Cochlear Implant, Urology and Urodynamics, as well as some of our busiest non-clinical teams, such as Main Reception, Central Booking Office and Digital Records.As a Matron you will:Be involved in managing the direct patient care, supporting the Nursing and Clinical teams who manage children and young people with all emergency and long-term conditions in partnership with families and carers.Be able to think quickly managing patients through complex pathways under the care of a number of clinical teams from admission through to discharge back into the community or other TrustsBe clinically competent assessing clinical emergencies and safeguarding concerns.Be a visible, approachable role model with high standards of Nursing and professional behaviour ensuring that all colleagues feel valued as per Trust Values.Teach, support and ensure nursing and unregistered staff are both up to date and continuingto develop their clinical skills.Be a visible leader who ensures that the child, young person and family have the best possible experience by listening to concerns and implementing change.Be at the forefront of new technological advances in nursing and medical paediatric research.
Main duties of the job
- Act as a strong & effective role model and provide effective leadership & guidance support & coaching to Sisters / Charge Nurses to promote & enable effective change management & strengthen their leadership skills to ensure strong leadership within clinical areas.
- Responsible for human resource issues including performance management, recruitment, complex sickness management, case & complaints investigations & staff utilisation. These situations require the post holder to have highly effective communication, analysis, judgement & synthesis skills.
- Forge successful relationships with other health care professionals and non-clinical staff to improve the overall patient experience
- To work in collaboration with the ACN & the Head of Patient Experience & Engagement to embed Patient, Family and Public Involvement and Engagement across the Directorate to ensure a safe and positive experience for children, young people andtheir families by proactively seeking their views
- Provide high quality & visible operational & line management, modelling excellent communication & team-building skills to wards & departments to deliver efficient use of resources, high productivity & evidence - based high quality patient care.
- Take lead responsibility to fully implement all elements of the quality agenda as set locally and nationally in all areas of responsibility. Take actions as necessary to ensure these standards are reached.
