Job summary

The Operational Analyst will be a core member of our CIU team working with partner project teams (clinical and non-clinical) to explore operational processes in the hospital, develop metrics and understand analytics requirements. The post-holder will then translate these requirements into analytics workflows and implement those workflows to produce outputs that will be used to inform and measure changes in operational practices in a number of contexts. The post-holder will work closely with other analysts and data scientists, conforming to the "Reproducible Analytics Pipelines" standards as practiced within the team, working across projects spanning clinical & non-clinical operations and research innovation.

The post-holder will maintain close working relationships with partner project teams and other stakeholders and pro-actively look for opportunities for insightful analysis and to add value. There will be the opportunity to apply advanced analytics methodologies to core operational activities that are identified as major priorities across the Trust.

The post-holder will be a proactive, self-motivated individual with a technical and innovative mind set. The post-holder will be skilled at communicating at a range of technical levels and motivated by the possibilities of using data and technology to deliver improvements in healthcare.

This job is cover for maternity leave and thus is offered as a 10-month contract.

Main duties of the job

  • Work with partner project teams and operational experts to understand business problems and identify how data can be brought to bear on these problems;
  • Initiate, arrange and/or participate in meetings between senior Trust staff and/or colleagues to discuss workflows and areas of opportunity or concern and take note of any action points;
  • Translate stakeholder requirements into data requirements and analytics plans;
  • Analyse and document simple to highly complex analytical workflows, information, data collection and/or reporting requirements;
  • Develop, run and maintain analytics and data solutions to support efficiency in the Trust;
  • Manipulate data and/or run and collate reports or other documentation as required for CIU management and the groups that oversee the CIU;
  • Develop solutions that are consistent with and complement development work across the data professionals in DRIVE;
  • Work in an agile way to adapt to new insights and changes in stakeholder requirements;
  • Provide outputs that are actionable and where the outcomes of intervention are measurable;
  • Ensure that outputs of analyses can be understood and acted on by non-technical stakeholders;
  • Pro-actively seek and leverage commonalities in approach that can be re-used across teams and projects;
  • Automate processes where appropriate;
  • Develop close working relationships within and beyond the OI team to accelerate a fully multi-disciplinary approach to projects;
  • Monitor the effectiveness of interventions;
