Job summary
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 3 Ward Administrator working in the in a leading Children's Hospital.
You will work flexibly as part of a team of ward administrators to support the Elephant, Lion and Giraffe wards at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust, on which inpatients under the Haematology and Oncology specialties are treated.
You will be responsible for providing excellent customer care to families on the ward and for carrying out established administrative processes efficiently and accurately. You will need to be a strong team player, with excellent communication skills and committed to providing the highest possible standard of service to our patients, families and to both our internal and external colleagues. You will have excellentinterpersonal skills and be able to deal effectively with a wide range of people. You will be highlyorganised and competent with IT to succeed in this role. You will have a caring and flexible approach to meet service requirements and will work well both as part of a team and independently.You will need to be a strong team player, with excellent communication skills and committed to providing the highest possible standard of service to our patients, families and to both our internal and external colleagues.

Main duties of the job
- To be the first point of contact and ensure that the ward reception areas always have adequate cover and support; that families are welcomed onto the ward; that phones are answered, and communication accurately recorded and that admin processes are efficient and of a high standard.
- To cross cover the other Ward Administrator
- To undertake registration, admission, transfer, and discharge procedures and to input the information onto the EPIC Electronic Patient Records System (EPR) ensuring high data quality and up to date information is entered and maintained promptly within the set targets. Helping the Trust to meet its 24-hour discharge summary target.
- To proactively monitor the admissions and discharge process ensuring all patients are accurately admitted and any errors corrected in a timely manner.
- To support the clinical teams in ensuring that inpatient discharge summaries are produced according to Trust standards and distributed within established timeframes.
- To arrange admissions with patients/families via the telephone, providing all relevant information.
- To provide a highly professional reception and telephone answering service for the ward, including taking messages and following up queries.
- To book patient hotel accommodation, transport and interpreters where required.
- To complete the IPC screening calls for patients coming into Safari Day Care.
