GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
LOCUM CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGY WITH AN INTEREST IN CONGENITAL HYPERINSULINISM (CHI) - 7PA
The Endocrinology service at Great Ormond Street Hospital would like to announce an exciting opportunity for a 12-month fixed term locum Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology post with an interest in Congenital Hyperinsulinism (CHI).
Tertiary training in CHI is desirable but not essential, although a demonstrated interest in beta cell physiology is an advantage. The successful candidate will spend 3PA of their time supporting the CHI service whilst receiving weekly timetabled training in CHI from the lead CHI consultant to develop high level skills and expertise in managing children with CHI. The endocrine department has a strong focus on research and the post-holder will take an active role in audit, clinical governance, teaching and research, including acting as Sub-Investigator for clinical trials in CHI.
The remaining 4PA will be spent within the general endocrine service developing a general endocrine portfolio. The post holder will have no initial on call but will be expected to participate in the CHI consultant daytime rota supporting the attending team with advice and management of patients with CHI within the Hospital and provide advice to outside Hospitals.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be expected to work with colleagues to support and develop the Congenital Hyperinsulinism service. The holder will run a weekly Congenital Hyperinsulinism clinic and provide input into the national Congenital Hyperinsulinism specialist commissioning meeting.
The endocrine department has strong research, under-graduate and post-graduate education components. The post-holder will be expected to take an active role in the on-going programmes of audit, clinical governance, supervision, teaching and research within Endocrinology. The clinical service is closely aligned with both clinical and molecular research at the UCL GOS Institute of Child Health and collaborative partners and commercial research through the GOSH clinical research facility. The post-holder will be encouraged to support the research programme in Congenital Hyperinsulinism. Attendance at any conferences needs to be planned well in advance and will be on a rotational basis with other consultants. It is expected that the appointee will take study and annual leave according to Trust policy.
All candidates must be on the specialist register for General Paediatrics and eligible for specialist registration in Paediatric Endocrinology, and have CCT or equivalent, or be within 6 months of award of CCT by date of interview. The candidates should be eligible for registration with the GMC and have full MRCPCH or equivalent. A higher degree (MD/PhD) is desirable.
