Senior Clinical Fellow (Equivalent ST4+) in Paediatric Nephrology

We are welcoming applications from Specialist Trainees for a Clinical Fellow position within Paediatric Nephrology. This is an exciting opportunity to gain or extend your clinical experience in Paediatric Nephrology, in the unique and supportive environment of Great Ormond Street Hospital. MRCPCH or equivalent is essential for this post.

We currently have the below vacancy available

    • Start date: March 2025- Fixed term 12 months.

You will join a team of 5 ST4+ grade doctors and 2 ST2-3's working in a large, multi-disciplinary Renal Unit. The appointee will quickly acquire skills in the management of urinary tract abnormalities and infections, tubular disorders, genetic and stone clinics, acute and chronic kidney disease, renovascular hypertension, nephritic and nephrotic syndrome, dialysis and transplantation. The appointee will develop skills in interacting with the multidisciplinary medical, surgical, nursing and allied professional team we have to deliver service to our patients. The unit provides excellent opportunities for clinical studies and the appointee will be encouraged to participate in research and audit activity.

Main duties of the job

Day time clinical duties

The appointee will share in the ward duties on Eagle ward and the Dialysis and Transplantation Unit, as well as attending to referrals from other wards and calls from other hospitals. At present the team consists of 2 SHOs, 2 clinical fellows and 3 SpR's. The Renal Unit has a nurse consultant and 7 senior Clinical Nurse Specialists, dedicated to provision of Renal Replacement Therapy (Transplantation, Peritoneal Dialysis, Home and In-Centre Haemodialysis). The Nurse specialists and the medical team work together to deliver care on the Unit.

Specific duties will include clerking and follow-on care of children on the Unit, presentation of cases at meetings and ward rounds, involvement in clinics, involvement in the teaching, research and academic programme of the Unit (see job plan below). The appointee will quickly acquire skills in the management of urinary tract abnormalities and infections, fluid and electrolyte disorders, acute and chronic renal failure, hypertension, nephritic and nephrotic syndrome, vasculitis, complex renal transplants and renovascular hypertension. In the medium term, the appointee will develop skills in renal replacement therapy, interacting with the multidisciplinary medical, surgical, nursing and allied professional team we have to deliver this service.
