Job summary
Biomedical Scientist (1.0 WTE Band 5) Immunology Laboratory, Department of Laboratory MedicineThis is a full-time contract for a well-motivated and enthusiastic scientist to support the diagnostic Immunology service at GOSH.The Immunology laboratory at Great Ormond Street Hospital provides diagnostic services to the Trust, including allergy, autoimmunity, immunophenotyping, cell culture and proteins, as well as a national specialist molecular diagnostic service for immune deficiency.The successful candidate will undertake routine investigations and duties providing support to senior scientists in all these areas under their supervision. Main duties of the job
- To carry out laboratory investigations on paediatric samples unsupervised as requested by the clinical services, taking responsibility for quality and accuracy of the results produce. This includes performing: ELISA, Allergy testing, Indirect Immunofluorescencetechniques, cell culture and proliferation assays, Flow cytometry techniques
- To have knowledge of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in use within the department and be proficient in the most frequently performed techniques and update SOPs as required
- To participate in the training of staff as required
- To participate in the training of visiting personnel from other departments or trusts
- To participate in departmental meetings and contribute to effective communication within the department.
- To be able to receive verbal information from users of the service i.e. hospital clinicians, nurses or medical secretaries as appropriate act on this information or pass on this information clearly and accurately to senior laboratory staff
- To participate, in collaboration with colleagues in research projects within the department and also across the directorate and ICH
