Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Endocrinology

(1 FTE posts Equivalent of Specialist Trainee 6+

This is an exciting new 2-year Clinical Fellowship where you will be able to gain tertiary/ quaternary experience in Paediatric Endocrinology in the unique and supportive environment of Great Ormond Street Hospital. As a valued member of the team you will be included in the educational and training activities of the unit and will be offered study leave. Clinical research, audit and quality improvement activities will also be encouraged. There will be opportunity to undertake specialty Endocrine clinics, attend postgraduate education sessions, Grand Rounds and local and national Multidisciplinary Team meetings.

We are looking for a motivated, full time Clinical Fellow to join the Endocrinology Department. This post is available to start from March 2025 for 24 months on a fixed term basis.

The post will provide an excellent experience for someone wishing to train in Paediatric Endocrinology. Full MRCPCH (or equivalent) and previous middle grade dedicated experience in General Paediatrics/ Neonates (2+ years) and Paediatric Endocrinology (1+ years), UK experience OR similar English-speaking healthcare system.

Main duties of the job

Duties will include:

  1. Work in collaboration with the Endocrine team and Consultants and act as a liaison point for the day to day management of patients with endocrine conditions.

2. Provide support to local hospital teams as needed and to liaise with the consultant on call about management issues.

3. To organise inpatient admissions as needed.

4. Daily review of endocrine inpatients on Kingfisher and Squirrel wards and any outlier consultations on other wards.

  1. Presentation at Grand Round of patients admitted for investigation and interpretation of their results.

6. Carrying out ward duties as discussed on ward round.

7. Liaising with parents.

8. Running outpatient endocrine clinics under supervision.

9. Opportunities to present cases at regional meetings.

10. Allocated management roles in coordinating national/ regional/ departmental MDT meetings, quality improvement and clinical governance.

11. Providing out of hours support to other medical specialties (metabolic medicine, gastroenterology, nephrology, rheumatology, dermatology) in a general paediatric capacity.
