CONSULTANT WITH THE CHILDRENS ACUTE TRANSPORT SERVICE IN PAEDIATRIC CRITICAL CARE TRANSPORT

We are seeking a locum Consultant with an interest in Paediatric Intensive Care Transport.

The Children's Acute Transport Service (CATS) is a collaborative service based at Great Ormond Street NHS Foundation Trust and is designed to make intensive care rapidly available to critically ill children in North Thames.

The service provides 24 hour, 365 day, Consultant led telephone advice and a triaging facility for all referrals and is committed to improving and developing the provision of critical care and critical care transport for all patients within its scope of care. CATS remains the busiest dedicated paediatric intensive care (PIC) transport service in the UK, handling over 2200 referrals and undertaking over 1200 intensive care transports a year.

You will be joining a friendly and dynamic team and this post offers the opportunity to develop an interest in education, training and research.

The successful candidate will have had at least two years specialist paediatric intensive care training and specific experience in paediatric transport. The post will be in paediatric intensive care transport.

The post is for a period of 6 months from October 2024 to support increased clinical activity in line with Winter Pressures funding.

Main duties of the job

This position has a week day on-call commitment of approximately 1 in 8 with prospective cover.

The post holder will be allocated office space and secretarial support.

The role of the consultant will be to contribute to the paediatric intensive care transport service for North Thames in all its aspects. They will be responsible for service delivery, setting standards, audit of the service in addition to and training medical and advanced clinical staff.

The service comprises 7.6 WTE Consultants, 1 WTE Operational and Lead Nurse, 12.0 WTE Clinical Fellows (ST6/7/8 OR equivalent), 3 WTE Advanced Nurse Practitioners and a core team of 6 WTE Band 6 CATS Nurses. Additionally, an established team of Rotational CATS Nurses provide support from each of the North London PICU's.

Administrative support is provided by 1 WTE Band 5 Service Support Manager and 6 WTE Band 4 A&C Staff Administrators.

The consultant will be expected to accompany clinicians new to the service or for challenging transports in addition to providing close distant supervision of the clinical transport team.
