Job summary
Our team of children's research nurses deliver world-class care to patients participating in clinical trials across our NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF), Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and Clinical Research Network: North Thames. Some of our recent successes include the Summit plc trial, to which the first two global patients were recruited in the CRF. The CRF has supported a BioMarin Pharmaceuticals sponsored clinical trial that has led to the clinical development and approval of a drug called VIMIZIM as a treatment for Morquio A syndrome. These successes demonstrate the importance of the research nurse contribution in continuing to deliver high quality and complex clinical studies for paediatric and rare diseases.
You will work alongside the Practice Educator to facilitate the training, education and continuing professional development of the clinical research delivery team across the division. The role will cover a variety of skills including generic and specialty-related skills, leadership and management and research skills. The post holder will also be responsible for student placements, clinical simulation, skill sign off, planning, creating and delivering teaching sessions as well as providing ad-hoc support and guidance while promoting and preserving the standards of Good Clinical Practice. You will have the support and oversight of the Practice Educator for Research and Innovation.
Main duties of the job
- To work with the Practice Educator in leading the teaching, training, and education of all staff within the division
- Promote high standards of care through role modelling the demonstration of clinical expertise, leadership, and professionalism
- To work with the Practice Educator to promote and enshrine the standards of Good Clinical Practice into the ethos of the unit daily
- To promote continuous improvement of patient care through research and evidence-based practice
- To be an expert IV practitioner with advanced IV therapy skills
- To encourage and support the development of clinical skills by working directly alongside staff with particular emphasis on new and less experienced staff
- To work with the Practice Educator and Line Managers to identify and facilitate learning needs for individual members of staff in response to clinical needs
- Facilitate the creating of a positive learning environment where staff development is encouraged and supported, and talent is fostered and enhanced
- Work flexibly to meet the changing educational needs within R&I
The core hours are Monday - Friday 0800-1800, however some early evening, night and weekend work may be required at times.
