Job summary

A Permanent Full Time Clinical Nurse Specialist Post is available on Mildred Creek Unit - Inpatient Under thirteen, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.

This post will require working as part of a team/s and autonomously.

This is an exciting opportunity to have clinical responsibility for a defined caseload of patients and families, as case co-ordinator. Also, to provide effective nursing leadership, expertise, advice and support to a team / department and ensure the provision of high - quality care to patients and families.

This role will involve one clinical shift per week, to support a Visiting Night and they will work with other case co-ordinators to provide cross cover to one another during periods of absence.

The post holder will work closely with the Matron, Ward Manager and Practice Educator to ensure safe and effective nursing care on the unit. They will also work closely with the Consultant Psychiatrist and Senior Management Team to develop the MCU Outreach and Consultation Models and Pathways.

Main duties of the job

To provide information, clinical advice and support to patients and families on their caseload.

To be an, knowledgeable and visible practitioner within the service ensuring the provision of high

Quality, evidence based nursing care for the children and their families.

Liaise with clinical, non-clinical and facilities staff in order to maintain a safe, friendly and welcoming environment for the children, families, visitors and staff. This will involve one Late shift per week to support a visiting night.

To act as an advocate for the child and family ensuring the provision of appropriate information and support services.

Support the Service Lead and ward Manager with the day to day clinical care of all patients and link with other case co-ordinators to cross cover, during periods of leave.

Support Service Lead with the assessment and admission of patients.

Liaise with other agencies including Primary Care Teams, schools, social services, CAMHS and local Paediatricians as appropriate.

Ensure the active engagement of the local team for each child within their caseload. Specifically with their named lead clinician and designated care co - ordinator, to ensure a smooth ongoing journey through effective.
