CONSULTANT IN BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTATION

Applications are invited for a 10 PA Consultant post in Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) and CAR T cell therapy based at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will join a team of consultants/speciality doctorscaring for a wide variety of malignant and non-malignant diseases within the largest paediatric BMT unit in the UK. The successful candidate will be expected to be the lead consultant for BMT out-patient services, contribute to junior doctor teaching/training and work closely with data managers to supervise reporting to EBMT.

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust is a postgraduate teaching hospital, linked with the Institute of Child Health (ICH). The Trust has 318 beds and provides a comprehensive range of paediatric specialties for tertiary level care. The patient population consists of over 20,000 inpatients per annum and 84,000 outpatients.

All applicants must have at least 2 years' experience in Paediatric BMT at consultant level. Candidates who are within 6 months of obtaining CCT may apply if they can demonstrate the required experience.

Main duties of the job

This is substantive, permanent post and the post holder will be part of the Bone Marrow Transplant department.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be part of a team of BMT specialists delivering tertiary paediatric care.
  • Be part of the larger team of BMT and Immunology consultants, covering these services jointly out of hours.
  • Lead on the care of patients with post solid organ transplant lymphoproliferative disease
  • Undertake outpatient clinical commitments.
  • Participate in relevant multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • Participate in teaching and training of doctors and nurses. Educational supervision of doctors in training will be required.
  • Be in charge of the rota for junior doctors in haematology/oncology/immunology/ID and BMT (rotational basis every 2 years)
  • Support delivery of the educational program offered at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
  • Participate in managerial aspects of the service.
