Job summary
We are seeking skilled and compassionate individual to join the new NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service (London) in the role of Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist.
The post holder will independently manage and have responsibility for a complex caseload of children and young people in the Children and Young People's Gender Service who have gender dysphoria or who are gender questioning.
The post holder will assess and manage children and young people (CYP) where there are concerns or needs related to communicative or vocal identity and/ or social communication skills. They will lead the Speech and Language Therapy team in the service and will be an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team. They will need knowledge and expertise in gender development and diversity, neurodevelopmental presentations, voice and mental health conditions.
For posts based in Inner London, the above salaries will include the additional supplement of 20% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £5,132 per annum and a maximum payment of £7,746 per annum.For posts based in outer London the above salaries will include the additional supplement of 15% of the basic salary. Minimum payment of £4,314 and maximum £5,436.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as a specialist adviser to speech and language therapists and other professionals. They will deliver education to CYP and their families, Speech and Language Therapists and other professionals. They will be responsible for line managing and supervising staff and educating students on placement.
A new clinical pathway has been developed, based on the recommendations of The Cass Review Interim Report, the NHS England interim service specification and the expertise of many clinicians from across the Northern and Southern Hubs. The service will be delivered by a wide multi-disciplinary team including paediatricians, mental health practitioners, youth workers, nurses, speech and language therapists and Speech and Language Therapists. Who patients see will be dependent on the support and care they need.
Children and young people will receive an in-depth assessment of their needs,and a care plan will be developed with them and, if needed, those supporting them. Children and young people may be offered a range of care interventions such astherapy, family therapy,physical healthsupport, or mental health supportfor any identified difficulties they may want help with. Theteam will also liaise with health professionals in local services nearer to the child or young person.

The Southern Hub, based in London, is delivered by a partnership of Evelina London Children's Hospital (part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust), Great Ormond Street Hospital and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
The Northern Hub is delivered by a partnershipof Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust). This role is based in the Southern Hub.
