Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced and qualified Healthcare Scientist within the Electron Microscopy section of the Department of Histopathology.You will work with the Lead Electron Microscopy Scientist in providing a diagnostic and research service to the Trust and many other external users. This busy unit specialises in the diagnosis of rare Paediatric disorders including metabolic diseases, renal and neuro-muscular disorders, cardiac and gastro- intestinal conditions. The laboratory is UKAS accredited to ISO 15189 and HTA.Candidates will have specialist knowledge and experience in Electron Microscopy, ideally be HCPC registered but we would consider, and support, suitable candidates towards registration through equivalence or similar routes as appropriate.

Main duties of the job
- To ensure that the highest possible standards of scientific and technical work produced within Electron Microscopy are maintained, whilst adhering to agreed protocols and quality control policies.
- To prioritise the diagnostic work of the section in liaison with the Clinical Electron Microscopist
- To carry out all laboratory investigations to a high standard of technical excellence
- To report on the results of investigations and to interpret results to assist diagnosis.
- To add clinically relevant comments, in line with laboratory policy
- To maintain and monitor the quality standards IS015189
- To provide expert scientific input to the departmental Quality Team in implementation, maintenance, assessment and resolution of QA/QC issues that may impact on patient care and Clinical Governance
- Undertake root cause analysis of incidents and non-conformances to use to formulate preventive actions and quality improvement
