These posts will play a key role in the Experimental Cancer Therapeutics program, which aims to improve the efficiency of introducing novel targeted agents into treatment of children with cancer. The drug development & translational research fellows will be part of a team of doctors, research nurses and data managers and will be based at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. These 12-month Clinical Research Fellow posts are particularly suited for a paediatric trained doctor (ST4 or equivalent) who has Paediatric Oncology experience (at least 1 year) and completed MRCPCH (or equivalent international paediatric training). The primary remit of the post holder will be responsibility for phase I/II trials for the testing of new drugs, particularly the new generation of biologically targeted drugs including biotherapeutics as part of our brain and solid tumour CAR-T cell programme. The fellows will support translational research projects such as advanced sample and biomarker development from the clinical coordination aspect.

Main duties of the job
The Clinical Research Fellow will work within the multidisciplinary Experimental Cancer Therapeutics team carrying out early clinical studies of agents in children, primarily at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The team is led by Prof Darren Hargrave, Consultant Paediatric Oncologist in Experimental Therapeutics and comprises; Consultant Paediatric Oncologists/ Haematologists, Research Nurses, Clinical Trial Co-ordinators and Data Managers. The Clinical Research Fellows will help recruit to and register patients on Clinical Trials and working with the Experimental Cancer Therapeutics team, the post-holder will be involved in the discussions with the parents about the various options in Early Clinical Trials, and help provide information for the families as appropriate. The post holder will also work with the data managers and be responsible the submission of CRF's for patients on clinical trials. The post holder will work with external monitors on ensuring accurate and documented source data for study patients. Depending on experience, the Fellow(s) will have the opportunity to assist in the development and design of phase I/II clinical trials, submitting applications to Research and Ethics departments and introduction of Phase I/II trials into the clinic. The post holder(s) will also be encouraged to assist in writing grant applications for funding of new drug trials as they become available.
