Interest in neuro-oncology and CNS late effects

GOSH is the largest centre for paediatric oncology in Europe with around 200 newly diagnosed solid/CNS tumours per annum. The department is the joint Principal Treatment Centre (PTC) for North London with UCLH. GOSH Oncology Department treats children up to 13 years of age and provides care for all children <1y of age across North and South London. The department is an active participant in national and international collaborative clinical trials and has recognized research track record. The radiotherapy provision is at UCLH which is one of two centres in the UK providing proton beam radiotherapy as well as radionuclide therapy for children and adolescents.

We are looking for an applicant trained as a paediatric oncologist with experience or interest in neuro-oncology. The successful applicant will work in an integrated team in the Department of Oncology and Haematology at Great Ormond Street Hospital and UCLH Principal Treatment Centre. He/she will be part of the larger team of oncologists delivering tertiary care to children with solid tumours.

Main duties of the job

  1. Be part of a team of oncologists specialising in neuro-oncology.
  2. Be part of the larger team of oncologists delivering tertiary care to children with solid tumours. The successful applicant will be part of an attending rota. During the attending weeks the applicant will provide direct clinical care to ward based patients (all tumour groups) along with a team of trainee doctors and specialist nurses. The role will involve participating in the consultant night- and weekend on call rota for oncology.
  3. Support and participate in the delivery of the care provided in the long-term follow-up clinic for CNS tumours.
  4. Have outpatient clinical commitments for patients with central nervous system tumours.
  5. Support for the retinoblastoma services.
  6. Participate in relevant multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  7. Participate in teaching and training of doctors and nurses in the Principal Treatment Centre and maintain the relevant qualifications to deliver this training. Educational supervision of doctors in training will be required.
  8. Support delivery of the educational program offered at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
  9. Participate in managerial aspects of the Principal Treatment Centre.
