Contact: Shahin Moledina, Consultant Pulmonary Hypertension + Paeds Cardiology - Shahin.Moledina@gosh.nhs.uk

Main duties of the job

The Fellow will provide for the investigation and management, including the use of newer therapies, of all patients referred with chronic pulmonary hypertension. The majority of the work involves assessment and detailed investigation of the children (and their families), including echocardiographic studies (after suitable training, if required). There will be ample opportunity for clinical research.

The Fellow will liaise with other departments such as radiology and the catheter laboratory in the organisation of invasive procedures necessary for the investigation and treatment of these patients. They will work closely with the transplant team as some children may eventually require this form of treatment.

One outpatient session per week will be undertaken with the Consultant and the Fellow, who may accompany the Consultant to major regional centres. The Fellow will be responsible for supervising the management of the daycases as well as completing the medical discharge summaries. Medical cover and more direct participation in the long-term post operative management of patients undergoing heart and heart-lung transplantation may form a part of the on-call duties. The Fellow will work closely with the Nursing Liaison Teams, both at GOSH and other centres sharing in the care of these children.
