Job summary

We are expanding our recovery workforce and are therefore looking to recruit Staff Nurses and ODPs who will play a vital role in the patient journey through theatres and recovery ensuring excellent patient care is maintained throughout. You will form part of a friendly, supportive, and innovative multidisciplinary team. We have a fantastically supportive education team that will ease you into an exciting, challenging and satisfying role.

As a Staff Nurse / ODP in Recovery at GOSH you will be part of a highly specialized team which performs over 10,000 surgical procedures a year. Many of the procedures we carry out are complex and cutting edge which means you will be working at the forefront of paediatric surgery both nationally and internationally. As a Band 5, you don't need previous experience in recovery, ITU or A&E.

Our organisation: Great Ormond Street Great Ormond Street Hospital is a tertiary service within the NHS. Most of the children we care for are referred to us from other hospitals throughout the UK because of the highly complex or rare nature of the child's condition.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide the highest standard of nursing care for the children, young people and their families at all times
  • To plan, assess, implement and evaluate programmes of care for individual children and to supervise other staff in this activity
  • To ensure an ongoing welcoming, caring and safe environment is provided for the children, young people and their families
  • To supervise and support members of the ward team as required, ensuring that all patients receive appropriate care
  • To ensure that treatments prescribed by the medical staff are carried out, and that multidisciplinary team members are informed of changes in the patient's condition
  • To actively assist in the education and practical training of learners and junior staff at every opportunity. To work in co-operation with their university in order to provide uniformity and promotion of professional standards
  • To participate in informal and formal teaching
  • To maintain confidentiality surrounding the child's or young person's admission and treatment at all time
