Senior Support Worker Early Intervention in Psychosis

Job summary

N-STEP has an exciting opportunity to recruit a Senior Support Worker to work as part of the Northamptonshire Service for the Treatment of Early Psychosis (N-STEP) based in the South of the county and support clinical staff and patients.

The post holder will support service users to develop, engage with and maintain relationships and activities within their local community, in line with their recovery goals. To achieve the objectives of this role, the post holder must work flexibly and creatively, holding the service user's goals and values in mind at all times.

The post holder will undertake Physical Health Checks to include ECGs, phlebotomy and any other tests required.

Main duties of the job

The post of Support Worker will apply a strength based approach to work collaboratively with service users and their care co-ordinators to:

Support achievement of a personally acceptable quality of life

To help guide the process of recovery

To help to restore what has been lost through illness

To enable access to community resources

To provide an assessment/intervention to ensure individuals are appropriately supported and facilitate links with specialist services as required.

To be actively involved with service users, carers and care coordinators in the planning and delivery of services via the care programme approach to facilitate the individual's journey of recovery.

To support in partnership with clinical staff and service users in the planning and implementation of care.

Bridge individuals to community based activities, to include facilitating and supporting group work when required.

Help the service user gain access to resources to include benefits and welfare rights.

Provide information on health promotion.

Help to identify early signs of relapse by monitoring the service user's progress, level of functioning and mental state and alert the appropriate staff involved in the service user's care.

Provide support to service users and carers on the management of their medication including side effects.

Provide support with the wider team to service users in crisis.

  • NVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline.

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Mental Health or commitment to work towards achieving it.
