Patient Safety & Improvement Co-ordinator

The closing date is 17 February 2026

Job summary

The Patient Safety & Improvement Co-ordinator is responsible for co-ordinating initiatives to enhance patient safety, supporting the analysis of incidents, and implementing improvement actions to create safer healthcare systems. This role involves coordinating and delivering complex patient-safety and improvement activity across multiple services, requiring the postholder to autonomously plan, prioritise and adapt programmes in response to emerging risks and operational pressures.

The postholder will provide specialist coordination and leadership for patient safety activity across the service, in alignment with the NHS Patient Safety Strategy and the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF). The role requires independent analysis of patient safety incidents, facilitating learning responses, and supporting teams to implement sustainable improvement actions. The postholder will act as a subject matter resource, advising operational and clinical colleagues and ensuring the organisation meets statutory and regulatory patient safety requirements. They ensure compliance with safety standards, national guidance, and governance frameworks, supporting the Trust's strategic commitment to delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care.

Main duties of the job

In addition, the postholder supports governance and assurance processes, on patient safety and feedback, risk management and audits, and contributes towards internal and external communications related to patient safety, operational safety, and emergency preparedness.

The postholder contributes to the development, review and proposed amendment of local patient-safety policies, procedures and guidance, based on learning from incidents, thematic analysis and national regulatory requirements.

This role interprets national patient-safety frameworks and translates them into local operational practice.
