Job summary
We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic and experienced Lymphoedema nurse to join our specialist palliative care team on a 12 month fixed term contract. We are a friendly, professional and supportive multi-disciplinary team, who set out to provide high quality care throughout Northamptonshire. The Lymphoedema Nurse Specialist service provides specialist assessment and treatment for patients who have Lymphoedema (excess swelling) directly associated with their cancer.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a Specialist Practitioner in Lymphoedema, demonstrating a high level of expertise within Lymphoedema management. They will provide specialist advice, education and support to other health care professionals and patients, and undertake clinical audits and research within the specialist area. They will diagnose and independently prescribe for patients with lymphoedema. The role will focus on those aspects that require a higher level of expertise and experience, whether in direct clinical care or the supervision and development of other health care professionals.
As the joint lead for the service, you are responsible for the management and development of the Lymphoedema team in order to meet the needs of the caseload and local population. The post holder will ensure that the team can manage a range of specialist care for patients presenting with complex, moderate and mild Lymphoedema. To line manage junior staff and be responsible for the development of competencies of staff within the team.

Essential
- Registered Nurse (Adult) /Current NMC Registration
- Recognised qualification in palliative care or equivalent
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
- Knowledge of up to date clinical trends and practices in lymphoedema
- Experience of clinical assessment skills in lymphoedema bandaging, use of Lymph Assist, Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Desirable
- Completion of V300 Non-medical prescribing
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Evidence of a high level of palliative care knowledge both cancer and non-cancer and its application to practice setting
- Significant level of recent Post registration experience/include experience of working in palliative setting
- Evidence of well-developed critical decision making skills which is evidence-based
- Evidence of working with a wide range of people at all levels
- Led on audit/project management/service developments
Desirable
- Recent healthcare experience
- Oncology/Lymphoedema related course
- Demonstrates current knowledge of national and local policies and drivers
- Sound knowledge and participation in research, measuring patient outcomes, audit
