Job summary

The Family Nurses within the Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) team delivers the FNP programme and the Family Steps Programme. The FNP Programme is a national evidence-based programme being implemented across England. The programme is to improve the antenatal health, child health and development and parents economic self-sufficiency in disadvantaged young families.

Accountable to the Family Nurse Supervisor, this role is responsible for delivering the FNP and FS intensive, preventive home visiting programmes to vulnerable, hard to reach families. Post holders will be required to develop high-level generalist and specialist skills to work within the clinical methods of the structured programme. Family nurses will be expected to develop therapeutic relationships with clients and work intensively within highly complex family situations to achieve the expected outcomes.

The Northamptonshire team has been delivering the national Family Nurse Partnership Programme since 2009 and is well established and respected throughout the county. The Family Steps programme is a newly developed offer which has been built by the team in response to commissioning changes and is currently being rolled out across the county. The team facilitate and support the delivery of the Tiny Steps programme and provide structured supervision within the framework.

This is a demanding specialist role requiring high levels of professional skills and practice and the ability to work as part of a team.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an experienced practitioner who has a sound understanding of community health services to join our Family Nurse Partnership team. The Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) is a licensed programme being delivered in a number of sites in England. The aim of the programme is to improve antenatal health, child health and development and parent's economic self-sufficiency in disadvantaged young families. The Family Nurses are responsible for delivering the FNP and Family Steps intensive home visiting programme to vulnerable families. The programmes within the pathway are focussed on pregnancy and the first two years of life. Ongoing training and supervision is provided to enable the team to be effective.

This is an exciting opportunity for an NMC registered practitioner to be part of an innovative pathway linked to the development of Healthy Child Programme services.
