Job summary
The Children and Young People's Pathway are pleased to be recruiting 3 x Carer Peer Support Workers.
These are key roles in the delivery of services for families and supporters. Carer Peer Support Workers help others by appropriately using their own experiences to inspire hope and support families to feel hopeful about the future.
The Children and Young People's Pathway are recruiting Carer Peer Support Workers who are parents or carers, of past or present service users, that have lived experiences of using our services.
The role will bring together people with shared experience to support each other, using the principles of respect, shared responsibility and mutual agreement of what is helpful to care for the young people that use our services.
The Carer Peer Support Worker will collaborate with the clinical staff, other practitioners, and support workers to assist in improving the wellbeing of the carers of service users who use NHFT services.
Main duties of the job
- Support current carers of service users directly including one-one or in small groups, as required.
- Support carers of service users with their integration into the community.
- Initiate, establish and maintain relationships with carers of service users in a variety of settings (including, telephone, video, homes, NHFT sites and in the community)
- Share and discuss common experiences with carers in an appropriate manner
- Work under the direction and leadership of registered professionals.
- Support carers with their emotional, personal and physical needs.
- Develop a trusting and mutually beneficial rapport with families/carers.
- Act as a coach and mentor to carers by providing information about support and services available to them within NHFT and the local community.
- Develop links across other organisations that support carers.
- Identify and strengthen carers partnerships with NHFT Services to improve the support they receive.
- Actively seek to understand and communicate carers views and needs to internal and external stakeholders in a variety of settings.
- Participate in professional supervision and training opportunities.
- Contribute a carers perspective for iDiscover Courses.
- Represent the carers voice at leadership meetings.
- Guiding parent/carers through periods of transition (i.e. when their child is transitioning out of, or across services).
