Special School Nurse
This job is now closed
Job summary
The Special School Nursing Team is a county-wide service made up of nurses and healthcare assistants, all based within Special Schools. We support primary and secondary schools across Northamptonshire, ensuring that children and young people with additional healthcare needs have full access to the educational curriculum.
We collaborate closely with professionals from community, acute, social, and educational settings. We provide competency-based training programs for education teams within Special Schools, partnering with schools to address the needs of the children and young people.
This role involves lone working in various settings, and we are seeking a forward-thinking, dynamic nurse to join us in this permanent position. You will be part of an evolving service, working alongside passionate colleagues committed to innovation and high standards of practice, with the ability to work autonomously.
Main duties of the job
As a registered nurse, you will work autonomously with support from the senior special school nurses who oversee managing school caseloads. Your responsibilities will include conducting holistic nursing assessments, including continence assessments, developing individualized care plans, and completing risk assessments to support the Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) for each young person.
You will also lead health promotion sessions in school settings and take part in immunisation programs for children and young people. In addition, as a registered nurse, you will mentor others, including student nurses, and collaborate with other agencies on Early Help Assessments, Child in Need procedures, and safeguarding children and young people in accordance with local procedures and the Northamptonshire Safeguarding Board guidelines.
