Job summary
We are looking for a Dental Officer to join our Specialist Dental Services in Northampton.
You will work as part of a Consultant led Special Care Dental team and an experienced Paediatric Dental team.
Main duties of the job
This role will involve delivery of clinical dental care for patients who are unable to access General Dental Services or Hospital Dental Services.
The Special Care arm of our service delivers care for patients who have a significant medical condition (physical or mental) or a disability which:

- Prevents the communication of pain and /or giving consent for treatment +/OR
- Prevents acceptance of dental care or treatment to achieve dental health +/OR
- Prevents access to the dental surgery and transfer into the dental chair for treatment +/OR
- Presents a high risk of bleeding, infection, impaired healing, adverse reaction or a medical emergency following the delivery of dental care
The Paediatric arm of the service also provides dental care for patients under the age of 16 requiring treatment under sedation or general anaesthetic due to anxiety or high caries rate.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or equivalent
- Current full Registration as a Dentist with the General Dental Council
- Current holder of, or eligibility for NHS Performer Number
- Verifiable CPD of relevance to the role
Desirable
- Experience of working in Special Care and/or Paediatric dental services
- Accredited training in dental sedation

- In good standing with the GDC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
- Commitment to patient centered care
- Positive approach to peer learning and reflective practice
- Enthusiasm for maintaining relevant CPD of relevance to the role

- Skilled in use of dental systems - preferably R4
