Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Cynthia Spencer Hospice for a band 2 healthcare assistant. We are looking for a healthcare assistant who has an understanding and interest in palliative care. Experience of working in palliative care whilst an advantage is not essential, as support and training will be provided as part of local induction. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential for these posts as you will be required to communicate sensitively and compassionately with patients and family.
The hospice provides 24/7 delivery of specialist palliative care to patients over 18 years of age, with life limiting disease.
The Hospices provide care over a 24 hour period, therefore you must be flexible to varying shift patterns to meet the needs of service demand; this includes late and/or early shifts, nights, weekends and bank holiday working. The post you are applying for is for Specialist Palliative Care - Countywide. Whilst this post is identified at a nominated base of Cynthia Spencer Hospice Northampton please be aware that on occasion due to service need we may request for you to work from our sister Hospice site at Cransley Hospice , Kettering
Main duties of the job
To proactively work alongside the registered nursing team toprovide patient centred holistic quality careTo establish and maintain good working relationships with othersin the multidisciplinary teamAbility to work in a fast paced and challenging environmentAssist in the delivery of individualised nursing care plans under thesupervision the patient's allocated registered nurse on duty. Thismay include helping patients to wash and dress, assisting withtoileting and assisting patients into a comfortable positionTo proactively work with Hotel Services team at mealtimes,ensuring that patients are assisted with eating and drinking asnecessaryTo identify and minimise interpersonal conflicts, promotingeffective working relationshipsProvide support to patients and families when they are distressedand escalate to nursing staff appropriatelyEnsure the care and dignity of the deceased patient is maintainedFriendly attitude and able to work as a flexible member of the team
