Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join Northamptonshire Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). The post holder will have the opportunity to contribute to a range of service development projects including the development of a Managing Strong Emotions pathway. This pathway intends to support children and young people (CYP) with goals of managing strong emotions, and is inclusive of those with learning difficulties, neurodevelopmental differences, and significantly impacted functioning. This multi-disciplinary pathway works jointly with other children's services within NHFT and in the community, such as the DBT-A service, CAMHS inpatient, CAMHS Intensive Outreach Team, CAMHS Crisis team, CYP Eating Disorders Service, Core CAMHS, and social care.
The role will involve providing specialist Occupational Therapy practice to children and young people, currently supported within CAMHS. This may include assessment, intervention, and care planning as determined by need. The post holder will also have the opportunity to provide consultation and training to other staff on this area of specialist practice.
Main duties of the job
- Supporting with assessment/screening to clarify individuals' presenting difficulties and needs, eligibility for specialist interventions (e.g., DBT-A programme) versus fit for alternate offers of intervention (e.g., creative or adapted approaches to learning skills to manage their emotions).
- Provide co-facilitation of groups, while also offering observations and assessment of functioning, and facilitating adapted approaches based on client need to appropriately scaffold client learning and engagement.
- Developing and maintaining knowledge of relevant intervention (e.g., DBT-informed) materials and skills in group facilitation, educating and fostering application/rehearsal of skills in the day to day lives of young people and caregivers
- To support in service development activities within the new pathway, which may include intervention development, review, and adaptation, contributing to development of best practices within the pathway by supporting from an occupational therapist lens.
- Supporting other practitioners within the pathway to continue to develop the provision, through delivery of effective needs assessment, development of content that is responsive to the needs of young people and families and referring services/populations, and routine evaluation of interventions to demonstrate outcomes beyond immediate clinical activity and highlight areas for quality improvement.
