Job summary

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a fixed-term Leadership Development post with clinical experience in Special Care Dentistry in conjunction with Kings College London and NHS-Midlands (WT&E). This post has been specifically created with the primary objective of encouraging the development of leadership skills and supporting your role as a future leader.

This innovative post will develop an understanding of research and NHS leadership. Project supervision and 1:1 support will be provided by an assigned mentor for the duration of the programme. This is an ideal opportunity for a highly motivated, professional in the early years of their career to work in a supportive and structured environment.

We recognise the importance of maintaining clinical skills. Applicants for the post will therefore be supported to develop their experience within 4 sessions of clinical activity in Special Care Dentistry within a Community Dental Service with sometime spent working within a secure setting. The role is based at St Andrews Hospital and St James Clinic in Northamptonshire.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be involved in a selection of the following Leadership/research activities: -

  • To introduce an Oral Health Needs Assessment for in-patient mental health secure setting in Midlands to devise appropriate care pathways to address their needs locally.
  • Evaluate the project's impact on the patients (oral health care needs, quality of life), the oral health care team and other health care professionals.
  • To identify educational resources needed for health care professionals (to be delivered by the oral health care team) by taking a holistic approach to address the patients' needs and common risk factors that has an impact on the patients.
  • Explore the requirements, opportunities, and training potential of delivering this service model for in-patient secure settings in other parts of the Midland's region

The structure of the post will be: -

  • 2 days per week working clinically between St Andrews Healthcare as well as from St James clinic in Northampton or Isebrook Hospital in Wellingborough (Wednesday and Thursday).
  • 5 days a week the Fellow will be working on the Secure Setting Oral Health Needs project under the guidance/support of Dr Heidari (Monday, Tuesday and Friday pm)
  • 5 days per week (Friday mornings) are dedicated to protected personal development time - there is a monthly study club and coaching session organised by NHSE
