Clinical Vascular Scientist / Vascular Sonographer

Job summary

The main responsibilities of the post holder is to provide technical, scientific and clinical expertise to the vascular and Diabetes Unit by performing the full range of vascular diagnostic ultrasound scans and produce accurate clinical reports independently and promptly.

To act on scan results and ensure that patients are appropriately referred on to clinicians.

To maintain the highest quality of patient care, imaging and reporting.

To assist with the training of National AAA screening programme screeners and quality assurance.

To assist with the training of junior/ new staff.

To be responsible for the implementation of policies and procedures within the vascular and diabetes unit.

Main duties of the job

To perform ultrasound scans and care for patients during these examinations, respecting the rights of privacy and confidentiality, thereby maintaining a high quality service to patients and clinicians.To produce clinical reports on ultrasound scans performed.

To contribute to the planning, organisation and smooth running of the area in which you are working, liaising with Vascular Surgeons, Nurses and other staff.

To co-operate with training of trainee Vascular Scientist, students and other staff and take part in their assessments and or preceptorship.

To maintain and expand personal and professional development including CPD clinical audit and clinical case study presentations.

To support the Surgeons as required during their clinical sessions and attend relevant MDT meetings, including staff meetings.

To contribute to the smooth running of the area in which you are working, including liaising with Vascular Surgeons, communicating to clinicians and other departmental staff, and organising workflow.

To be responsible for the care of equipment within your charge and the maintenance of a clean and tidy work environment. Any faults with equipment or hazards (real or potential) should be reported without delay to the lead Vascular Scientist and external contract engineers.

Contribute to and support the AAA screening programme as required including off site clinics.

  • Post-graduate certificate / diploma / masters in medical imaging / vascular ultrasound.
  • Trained in scanning a wide range of diagnostic vascular ultrasound scans.
  • Adequate experience in performing, interpreting and reporting a wide range of diagnostic vascular ultrasound scans, independently, post qualification.

Desirable

  • CSVS accreditation (AVS) or working/ willingness to work towards it.
  • STP qualification in Vascular Science
  • HCPC registration
  • >=1 year's experience in performing a wide range of diagnostic vascular ultrasound scans post qualification.
  • Mentoring trainee vascular scientists / junior colleagues
  • Experience working with the National AAA Screening Programme (NAAASP)
  • Experience working within the NHS
