Continuity Maternity Support Worker

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate and motivated experienced Maternity Support Worker who is dedicated to providing continuity of care for women (birthing person) and their families, who are non-English speaking and those with specific educational learning needs. This is in addition to (and to run alongside) the routine NHS maternity care provision. Providing a dedicated and personalised service to ensure safer care based on a relationship of mutual trust and respect between the woman, and staff. You will be part of a supportive and experienced team who provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care, in various locations including service users' homes.

Main duties of the job

The Continuity Maternity Support Worker (CMSW) will carry out assigned tasks involving direct care of the mothers and their babies in support of and under the general supervision of the midwife. these include:

  • To support effective communications with women, by accessing translation or interpretation services.
  • To signpost women to the relevant accessible public health information.
  • To support women with educational learning needs to work through their Maternity Care passport. Using communication tools to assist these discussions, under direct supervision of the midwife.
  • To facilitate an, 'at home' Pre-Booking appointment to cover Public Health messaging and signposting to the website and ensuring that service users can install Badger app and have accepted the notifications (with consent).
  • To provide additional infant feeding support, antenatal education and extra support in the post-natal period.
  • To support the women to preparing for the baby's arrival .i.e. discuss the equipment required and what to bring into hospital etc.
  • If appropriate, attendANC appointments, ensuring translation services are available at each contact if appropriate.
  • To provide Day 3 and day 5 post-natal visits, in either the community hubs or at home
