Job summary
The Buildings Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day building fabric maintenance across the Trust estate, ensuring that all work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high professional standard. The post holder will use their technical knowledge of building construction, carpentry, and general fabric maintenance to support the delivery of repairs, minor works, and planned maintenance activities.
The role provides direct supervision to building services staff, ensuring effective workload planning, quality assurance, and excellent customer service. Working closely with Estates colleagues, clinical teams, and contractors, the post holder will coordinate building maintenance tasks, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, technical standards, and Trust policies. They will contribute to service improvement, staff development, and the safe, effective operation of the Estates service.
Main duties of the job

Plan, allocate, and monitor building fabric maintenance tasks using the Estates CAFM system to ensure efficient use of resources and timely completion.

Provide day-to-day supervision, support, and performance management of building services staff, including appraisals and 1:1s.

Carry out building fabric and carpentry repairs to a high standard when required, offering technical expertise and practical support.

Coordinate minor building works and small construction projects, including planning, scheduling, and liaison with clinical and non-clinical teams.

Supervise contractors undertaking building repairs or minor works, ensuring safe systems of work, permit compliance, and adherence to Trust procedures.

Initiate and oversee planned building maintenance programmes (painting, fabric repairs, environmental improvements).

Promote and ensure Health & Safety compliance across the team, including COSHH and safe working practices.

Support the Estates on-call rota when required due to staff shortages or operational pressures.

Carry Trust communication devices and respond appropriately to operational needs.
