Operating Department Practitioner Apprenticeship

Job summary

The Apprentice Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) will be working towards becoming a registered ODP by gaining a BSc (Hons) in Operating Department Practice through our chosen Higher Education Institute and will become a successful registrant of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). The Apprentice ODP will undertake an apprenticeship programme incorporating the integrated Degree Apprenticeship standards of an ODP. The apprenticeship programme combines academic and work-based learning. The Apprentice ODP will be fully supported to develop the skills required over the duration of the apprenticeship.

We will be holding a Q&A session on Monday 23rd March at 17.00 pm - 19.00pm in the Education Centre on level 5, at Salisbury District Hospital. Come along and find out more about the role. There will also be a presentation at 18:10pm. There will be a chance to meet some of the team and ask any questions about the role and the recruitment process. Main duties of the job

Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) are registered healthcare professionals specialising in the caring of people of all ages before, during and after surgery. ODPs mainly work in operating department but can work in areas such as education, Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. They work alongside other professionals and take the lead role ensuring a patient is safe of a patients journey through the operating theatre.

Essential

  • Functional skills in English and Maths at Level 2 or GCSE grade A/9 to C/4 Mathematics and English (ideally gained in the last 5 years
  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades A-C or 4-9 according to Bournemouth University entry requirements.
  • Academic Entry Requirements: 104 - 120 UCAS tariff points including a minimum of 2 A-levels or equivalent according to Bournemouth University entry requirements
  • Care Certificate or willingness to complete if no previous care experience
  • Relevant experience in a healthcare setting
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the role of an ODP
  • Meets the ESFA funding requirements in being resident in the UK for at least 3 years
  • Ability and willingness to travel to attend university study, work placements and daily commute
  • Flexible attitude to all work patterns, including out of hours (weekends and night shifts)
