Job summary
The post holder will be joining an enthusiastic and dynamic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Department.
The department was purpose built during 2007 in a PFI, there are excellent facilities for outpatient clinics and minor operating under LA with a wonderful outlook over the Wiltshire countryside. The Maxillofacial laboratory, Medical Photography, Laser Unit, Speech and Language and the Cleft offices are all immediately next to the department.
There are 8 surgeries in the department, 2 are configured for orthodontic and restorative dentistry, there is immediate access to a CBCT scanner and intraoral digital scanners. There are two other minor operations theatres for both Plastics and OMFS.
Main duties of the job
The Trust is working in partnership with the Regional Major Trauma Centre (MTC) at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) to deliver an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service for the Wessex Trauma Network. This role will be part of the trauma on call Rota, currently 1:7 weekends. Salisbury is a diagnostic centre for Head and Neck Cancer. The Head and Neck Treatment Centre is based in UHS. Patients needing intra oral resection free flap reconstruction and radiotherapy are transferred to UHS. There may be a requirement for the post holder to attend clinics at UHS.
The post holder will be expected to manage general Oral and Maxillofacial cases, in addition to having a special interest in skin, orthognathic or salivary gland surgery.
