Job summary

An opportunity to work with an enthusiastic and proactive team to support the wider Orthopaedic service. The role will support Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy across Trauma and Elective services on the wards and in the day surgery department.

The team provides a high level of therapy input to trauma and orthopaedic patients before and after surgery supporting the elective orthopaedic recovery initiative and provide rehab and discharge planning for trauma patients. The team works with the wider team to develop services and implement improvements for the benefit of the patients.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide, or assist qualified therapists to deliver, therapy to patients. This includes tasks such as enabling patients to mobilise, re-education of gait (walking), transfers including wheelchair transfers, hoisting, stairs, active exercises and passive movements, using transfer aids.
  • To enable patients to practice activities of daily living e.g. feeding, washing, dressing, toileting, bathing, food preparation.
  • To teach patients safe use of aids and equipment, under the guidance of the therapist
  • Maintain patient safety through rigorous and consistent compliance with Trust policies for the prevention and control of infection, including hand hygiene. To undertake appropriate mandatory training and updates in infection prevention and control.
  • To safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in compliance with Trust and staff responsibilities under Section 11 of The Children Act 2004; to follow Trust safeguarding children and child protection policies and guidelines and undertake appropriate mandatory training and updates in safeguarding children/child protection.
  • To work in a collaborative and co operative manner with other health care professionals, patients, carers and their families, recognising and respecting their involvement in the planning and delivery of care.
