Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust

Senior Cardiac Physiologist (Echo trainee)

The closing date is 08 June 2025

Job summary

Echocardiography training opportunity!

At Salisbury District Hospital we have an opportunity to train in Echocardiography with a great team, in a newly refurbished department. This would be ideal for a junior cardiac physiologist looking to take their career down the echo route, however we would also consider a Band 5 to Band 6 progression post for a newly qualified cardiac physiologist with an early interest in echo.

You would be fully supported to follow our departmental training plan with the ultimate goal of achieving Level 2 BSE accreditation. You would also be expected to also support the non-invasive and PCI service alongside your training.

We have a portfolio of Philips echo machines (6x EPIQs, 1x Affiniti & 1x Compact 5500) and all our echo rooms are compliant with BSE standards, as are our training appointment times of 1 hour (department standard is 50 minutes). Our service also operates from a Community Diagnostic Centre in central Salisbury and some of your training would be delivered there.

At SFT we have an excellent track record of supporting continuing professional development (including professional exams) and further academic study. We also seek to have representation at national and regional meetings.

SFT is keen to support flexible working options.

We would advise contacting us for an informal chat, at which time we can arrange a visit if you would like.

Main duties of the job

At SFT we perform transthoracic echocardiography with physiologist-led stress (exercise) echo and bubble studies. We also participate in stress (pharmacological) echo, contrast echo and TOE. In the future we hope to perform all echocardiography within the CIU department.

At SFT we perform coronary angiography and intervention, providing a Primary PCI service during normal hours. There is also a full non-invasive service including exercise testing (including alongside Radiology for perfusion scanning), ambulatory monitoring and ECG. We also have a full CRM service spanning pacemakers, ICDs and CRTs, including conduction system pacing and S-ICDs.

You would be expected to take responsibility for your own learning including keeping up to date with emerging evidence and current guidance, but you would be supported in doing so.
