Job summary

A wonderful opportunity to gain experience in a specialised and dynamic multidisciplinary team, working with children and adults born with a cleft lip and palate and their families. The Spires Cleft Centre in Salisbury is part of a dual-site service with the site in Oxford. The post will be based in Salisbury.

This post involves working within an experienced and supportive MDT of plastic and maxillofacial surgeons, speech and language therapists, clinical nurse specialists, orthodontists, reconstructive dentists and geneticists. Psychology is well established and highly valued by the Spires Cleft Centre and the post holder will be involved in MDT clinics and psychological triage for children, young people, adults and families affected by cleft lip and/or palate.

A key role is the collation of standardised assessments and questionnaires contributing to national data sets. The post holder will support work with children, young people and families experiencing psychological distress in relation to experiencing visible difference, difficulties with functional consequences of their condition or difficulties coping with planned surgical procedures and treatment as both outpatients and inpatients.

The post holder will work under the supervision of the part-time clinical psychologist in Salisbury and will have a working relationship with a clinical psychology colleagues also based in Oxford.

Main duties of the job

  • Clinical Assessment and Intervention: Assessing patients, conducting screenings, and providing interventions.
  • Data Management: Collecting, scoring, and inputting data into relevant databases.
  • Clinical Collaboration: Working closely with the clinical psychologist.
  • Research Participation: Contributing to research and audit activities.
  • Administrative Tasks: Maintaining accurate records and managing workload.
  • Strong Clinical Skills: Demonstrating expertise in clinical assessment and intervention.
  • Effective Communication: Communicating clearly with patients, families, and colleagues.
