Job summary
Applications are invited for a fixed term 6-month part-time post (32 hours) with a 1 in 6 non-resident on call commitment (in addition to the 32 hours), due to start on Wednesday 7th of August 2024 to Tuesday 4th of February 2025.
The post holder will have the opportunity to work flexibly within the Hospice In-patient Unit, Hospital and Community Palliative Care Team depending on service needs and the experience of the successful candidate. This will provide a fantastic opportunity for a junior doctor who has had some palliative care experience to increase their knowledge and skills in a supportive environment.
Hospice In-patient Role:
- The post-holder will be responsible for the day to day and continuing medical management of the inpatients including diagnosis, appropriate investigations, treatments, rehabilitation and discharge planning
- The post holder will support the rotating foundation trainee doctors and GPVTS trainees on the IPU.
- As part of a multidisciplinary team the post holder will play a key role in co-ordinating patient and family care and liaising with other specialities and disciplines across the care settings as appropriate
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the post will be providing medical care to the inpatients at Salisbury Hospice and/or working within the community and hospital setting dependant on the needs of the service as well as the experience of the successful candidate. Appropriate 24/7 clinical support will be provided by the consultant team.
Community and Hospital role (if applicable):
- The post-holder will be supported by the CNS and consultant team to undertake holistic assessments of patients within the community and hospital settings.
- The post-holder will work with the members of the multidisciplinary team to provide continuity of care to patients and advice and support to colleagues
- Responsibilities within the community team include conducting home visits and outpatient appointments, phone support and attending community MDT meetings
- Responsibilities within the hospital team include the provision of symptom control advice and support to patients within the acute trust.
On-call Arrangements:
The post holder will provide a 1 in 6 non-resident on-call cover, covering weeknights and weekends, which includes planned ward rounds, urgent admissions and review of patients as requested within the Hospice In-patient unit. Providing telephone advice to colleagues regarding patients in other settings if experience allows. There is always a consultant second on call to provided support. This necessitates possession of a valid UK driving licence and living within 1 hour travelling time of the Hospice
