Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our forward-thinking team of dietitians based at Salisbury District Hospital. You will be providing cover to a newly opened Older Persons ward in addition to our surgical wards including support alongside patients requiring parenteral nutrition managed by the Trust nutrition team.

This post would suit a confident and organised dietitian with the potential to provide excellent effective and patient focused dietetic care for this group as the new ward will be a blank canvas for development of the most appropriate service. Applications would be accepted from both experienced dietitians and band 5 candidates looking for a developmental role.

This Dietetic service takes student dietetic placements and this postholder would be expected to provide supervision for students and junior staff as required.

Main duties of the job

Main duties and responsibilities

Provision of specialist dietetic advice to patients and their carers to meet their changing nutritional/dietary needs during their inpatient stay.

Support to the NST as required in the assessment and monitoring of patients requiring parenteral nutrition.

Placement and management of enteral feeding tubes which may include NGTs, balloon gastrostomies and tube securement devices in line with Trust guidelines.

Provision of a clinically effective accessible and timely service to patients and their carers that is evidence based, patient sensitive and flexible.

Working on the development of referral criteria, appropriate nutritional screening tools, nutrition protocols and policy concerning dietetic input and nutritional approaches for patients within these specific multidisciplinary teams.

Attendance at regular MDT meetings, case conferences, regional specialist meetings and other events to promote the role of the Dietitian and influence practice where able.

Provision of appropriate nutritional teaching sessions for patients and carers and for other health care workers.

Actively participate in the departmental quality clinical governance activities to ensure practice is clinically effective and is evidence based.
